Paddy's Day
Yesterday, 17th March, was St. Patrick's Day.Saint Patrick's Day (March 17) is a Christian feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (386-493), the patron saint of Ireland. It is a national holiday in the Republic of Ireland (but not Northern Ireland, where it is a bank holiday); the overseas territory of Montserrat; and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by Irish people and increasingly by many of non-Irish descent. Like Christmas and Halloween, it is increasingly celebrated in a non-religious manner. Celebrations are generally themed around all things green and Irish; both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green as part of their wardrobe, eating Irish food and imbibing Irish drink, and/or attending parades. In other words, a most worldly celebration and a welcome excuse to get pissed.
In the United Kingdom it is also common for people to drink large amounts of Guinness in the hope of getting a 'Guinness Hat', a hat that pubs usually give away after a certain amount of the beverage has been consumed (usually five pints). This is increasingly popular with students. (Wikipedia)
So I, Jamie and Joel met at Jamie's flat in the evening, had some cider and some lager and had a good time watching TV. A Japanese programme called 'Colourful' basically revolving around some guys nampaing all the time (and I'm not gonna explain now what that is). Great fun!
After imbibing a sufficient amount, we set out for the city to check out the Paddy's Day
celebrations - guys in green running around wearing Guinness hats. Lol, even McDonalds had bouncers that night...After stopping by for a burger we went back up to the student union where we had to queue to get in (never saw that before!) and inside it was quite hot and muggy. I spent some time hanging around at the bar with Joel and Jamie but after a spurt to the bog I decided it was time for me to go home!
Today Jamie told me on MSN that he'd started a blog. Go all and check it out - Chichi Chojin and his mission to repopulate Japan... lol
